Meet the Staff

Ryan Flokstra – Program Coordinator

Hello Everyone!
I’m Ryan and this will be my fourth summer at Camp. I spent 2 summers as a Counselor, 1 summer as the Worship Counselor, and this summer I will be the Adventure Camps Coordinator. I am going into my second year at Redeemer University, where I am majoring in Biblical/Theological studies, and minoring in Philosophy and Media/Communications. In my free time I enjoy playing guitar, binging the latest Netflix show, and sitting in my local Tim Horton’s with friends #CaledoniaRepresent. God is doing great things, and I am super excited to see how He uses our amazing staff to further His kingdom. See you all this summer!

Joy-Hannah Koudijs – Program Coordinator

Hollaa!!! My name’s Joy-Hannah and I am so excited to be back for a fourth fantastic summer at camp! I spent 2 summers as a counselor and last summer as the Munchies and Special Needs Coordinator which I am pumped to being leading again this year! I can’t wait to work alongside another amazing group of staff and see how God is going to change lives! A little about me, I am heading into my fourth year at McMaster University where I am studying Human Behaviour: Autism and Behavioural Science Specialization. When I’m not busy at school, you can probably find me at camp for some reason or another. I love painting, laughing, being outside, going on adventures and discovering what how great the God we serve is!

Sam Degroot – Spec Trek/Sports/Arts Coordinator

Hey, y’all!  I’m Sam and I am beyond excited to be the Spec Coordinator at Camp Shalom this year!  I’ve had two great years at camp so far and I’m sure this summer will be no exception!  When not at camp, I’m either hangin out in good ol Chatham, Ontario, exploring Wellington County, or at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, pursing my music degree.  Other than music and camp (and JESUS), the great loves of my life are my adorable dog Timbit, bubble tea, and a fair few Broadway musicals (please beware: I have a strong reputation for bursting out in spontaneous song and dance #sorrynotsorry).  Anyway, I can’t wait see all of your beautiful faces and I’m looking forward to an amazing summer of fun, worshipping God, and serving guests at Camp Shalom!

Hi! I’m Marika and I’m in grade 11. I adore cats, reading books, and other nerdy things. I tend to make far too many puns which some people don’t appreciate even thought they’re always punderful. Last year, I was a part of the DISC program, and had a fantastic time! Overall, I’m looking forwards to a fantastic summer!

Cole Puffer – Counselor

My name is Cole, I am 17 years old and I am currently in grade 11. Some things I enjoy doing are playing bagpipes, attending my youth group on a weekly basis, and spending time with God. I have been playing bagpipes for about 3 and a half years. I love going to youth because we are like one big family, and everyone knows that no matter what the circumstances everyone in the youth group will have your back and be praying for you. I was raised in the faith and I grew up going to Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly. My favourite part about church is worship because I enjoy singing and jumping around while glorifying the name of God. I am very excited to be a counselor at Camp Shalom because I want to help kids grow in their faith and live out their lives the way that Jesus commands and help them see God in everything they do. My goal for this summer is to grow in my faith and I believe that helping others get to know God also helps you get to know God.
