Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

You must be 16 years old.

What will I have to do?

Depending on the number of campers and volunteers. Volunteers will be assigned one of 3 areas.

1)  Volunteers will be assigned a group of up to 10 campers. Camp Shalom staff will organize, plan and lead all of the activities throughout the day. Volunteers will supervise their assigned group of campers and help them through the activities of the day.

2)  Volunteers may be designated a floater. Available to help out wherever needs arise.

3) Volunteers may be assigned to help with general cleanup and janitorial tasks.

What is the schedule?

Camper check-in is 9:00-9:30am. Check-out is 3:30-4:00pm.

Volunteers should arrive at 8:30am and plan to leave soon after 4:00pm

Can I volunteer for only part of the day or part of the week?

We prefer all of our volunteers to be available for the whole week and the whole day. If that is not possible, please register anyways and we can figure out if volunteering is still possible.

Do I need a criminal records check?

All Volunteers 18 years of age or older must have a Criminal Records Check submitted to the church.

All volunteers, of any age, must complete a Voluntary Disclosure Statement (included in the online volunteer registration). Volunteers under the age of 18 are unable to obtain a criminal records check and are required to complete a voluntary disclosure statement as a replacement.

A voluntary disclosure statement is a simple document that allows volunteers to voluntarily offer any information regards to past criminal charges. For volunteers under 18 years old, this replaces a criminal records check. For volunteers 18 years old or older, this is in addition to a criminal records check.

If you need a letter to the police station requesting a criminal records check for volunteering, you can email Adrian (adrian@countrysidecamp.com) and he will send you one.

The police station may ask you to get a Vulnerable Sector Search. You do not need a Vulnerable Sector Search. A Vulnerable Sector Search is better than a basic criminal records check so either one is acceptable.

Can I receive volunteer hours for high school?

Absolutely! We would be happy to sign off on your volunteer hours. Email Adrian (adrian@countrysidecamp.com) after the week is over.
