It is Red River Cereal Time!

 In Ontario Christian Camps

ed River Cereal Can you smell it; the scent of the coming snow in the air? Can you hear it; the crisp crunch of the frosty leaves beneath your feet as you walk along the pathways? I love it and so will your retreat guests this winter at Countryside Camp and Conference Centre.

I first tasted Red River Cereal at a camp in Manitoba and immediately I fell in love with it. No it isn’t cream of wheat nor is it oatmeal. Wikipedia notes that “Red River Cereal is a porridge or hot cereal, made of wheat, rye, and flax, produced in Canada, with some availability elsewhere. It was first created in 1924 in Manitoba. The cereal takes its name from the Red River of the North, more specifically the valley around Winnipeg.

When you consider winter camping this season, Red River Cereal will fill your stomach with such goodness; I top mine with butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup; sometimes raisins or other dried fruits and pecans make a wonderful breakfast even more amazing.

You can make your own at home but better yet, get between 20 and 160 of your friends together and serve it here to them at Countryside Camp on your next winter retreat they will love it!
